European Accessibility Act (EAA)

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) is a comprehensive set of European Union-wide rules designed to make a wide range of products and services more accessible for people with disabilities. The goal is to remove barriers and ensure that everyone, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities, can use essential technologies and services. The EAA standardizes accessibility requirements across all EU member states, making it easier for companies to comply and for consumers to find accessible products.

Example: A software company is developing an online banking portal for its customers in the EU. To comply with the EAA, they must ensure their interface, including the login page, meets specific accessibility standards. This would involve a quality assurance team verifying that the contrast ratio of the text and background is high enough for users with low vision, and that the website can be fully navigated and used with a keyboard alone, which is essential for users who cannot operate a mouse.
