Documentation Testing
Documentation Testing is a type of non-functional testing that verifies the accuracy, completeness, and clarity of all the documentation related to a software product. This includes a wide range of documents, such as user guides, installation manuals, API documentation, and online help files. The goal is to ensure the documentation is consistent with the actual software and provides clear, useful information to the end-user or other developers.
Example: A team releases a new application with a login feature. Before the release, a tester performs documentation testing on the user guide. They review the section titled "How to Log In" to make sure the steps described—e.g., "enter your email and password," "click the 'Sign In' button"—match the actual user interface. They also check for accuracy in the troubleshooting section, such as verifying that the error message "Incorrect password" is spelled and phrased correctly in the document, and that the instructions for resetting a password are easy to follow.
