Figma Acquires AI Design Startup Weavy, Launching Figma Weave

Design platform Figma has acquired AI-powered image and video generation startup Weavy, which will operate under a new brand called Figma Weave. The startup, founded in 2024, raised $4 million in a seed round earlier this year led by Entrée Capital, with participation from Designer Fund, Founder Collective, and Fiverr founder Micha Kaufman. Figma did not disclose the deal valuation, and 20 Weavy employees will join the company.

Weavy will continue as a standalone product for now, with plans to integrate it fully into Figma Weave in the future. The startup’s tools let users combine multiple AI models to generate high-quality images and videos, with advanced editing features such as layer edits, lighting, color, and angle adjustments. Designers can iterate on outputs by branching, remixing, and refining results from different models, making it a flexible tool for creative workflows.

“This node-based approach brings a new level of craft and control to AI generation. Outputs can be branched, remixed, and refined, combining creative exploration with iteration and craft. The Weavy team has inspired us with the balance they’ve struck between simplicity, approachability, and power. They’ve also created a tool that’s just a joy to use,” Figma CEO Dylan Field said in a statement.

The acquisition reflects growing demand for AI-powered design platforms that streamline media creation. Recent moves in the space include Perplexity acquiring the team behind Sequoia-backed design platform Visual Electric, and Krea raising $83 million from investors including Bain Capital and a16z.
