Meta Might Not Release Mixed Reality Glasses by 2027

Meta’s next-generation mixed reality glasses—internally known as Phoenix—won’t arrive as soon as we’ve expected. According to Business Insider, the company has shifted the planned launch from the second half of 2026 to the first half of 2027.

The tech giant already offers VR headsets and its popular Ray-Ban smart glasses, but Phoenix appears to target a more advanced category. The device will reportedly resemble the Apple Vision Pro, complete with a puck-style external power source.

Business Insider says it reviewed internal memos outlining the delay, which followed meetings where CEO Mark Zuckerberg urged teams to focus on building a sustainable business and delivering higher-quality experiences. Meta’s metaverse leaders, Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns, reportedly wrote that the new timeline will provide “a lot more breathing room to get the details right.”

The delay comes as Meta reassesses investments across its metaverse ambitions. Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that the company plans to cut its metaverse budget by as much as 30%, signaling a shift in priorities as it balances long-term bets with immediate business pressures.
